I’ve been thoroughly enjoying BBC1′s lottery drama The Syndicate, in which five supermarket workers jointly win a share of £18 million.

Among them is the well meaning Stuart Bradley (played by Matthew McNulty), who – as well as falling for Leanne (played by Joanna Page), one of his fellow millionaires – has to cope with the excesses of his scheming and materialistic girlfriend, Amy (Beth Hayes), who seems intent on spending every penny of his winnings. With Stuart very firmly wrapped around her diamond-encrusted finger, they move from a small council semi into a suburban mansion complete with a brand new AGA around which many of the twists and turns of Kay Mellor’s intricate plot play out.
